The Lakeshore Story

story2In 1952 Lakeshore Senior Communities opened its first senior care facility and began serving the needs of residents in the Middle Tennessee area.  The vision to begin a ministry to provide housing and care to the elderly was a dream of many area Christians and was made possible through the financial support of individuals and local congregations of the Church of Christ.

The original plan was to build the facility near Percy Priest Lake, hence, the name Lakeshore.  However, federal restrictions on construction made it necessary to find land elsewhere but the name remained the same.   Lakeshore Home for the Aged opened its doors in May 1952 and began serving the elderly in a caring Christian environment.  More than 60 years later, that rich heritage still exists as we continue to provide the same compassionate personalized care to all of those we serve.

story1As in everything, change is inevitable and so it has been for Lakeshore.  The flagship facility located at Wedgewood Avenue and Eighth Avenue in Nashville was sold to Signature Healthcare in 2010.  Today, Lakeshore Senior Communities consists of two facilities.  The Meadows, located in Bellevue and Heartland in Donelson, offer independent living, assisted, nursing care, memory care and skilled rehabilitation services to seniors.

Many of our team members have served at our communities for a number of years.  We are proud of our heritage and are committed to continuing to provide the best of senior care to those who seek our services. We are grateful to those who have served on the Lakeshore Board of Directors over the years, under whose guidance the lives of many have been enriched and blessed in the name of Jesus Christ.
